RebelNet

RebelNet

Welcome

Welcome to the RebelNet website. We have been considering and working on a plan, for a while, to change Ircd's. UnrealIrcd? was getting to buggy and has too many security issues, and is relatively a slow Ircd. So when the server in the US died and had to be replaced, several changes and upgrades were done. First of all the Linux version was upgraded from Fedora 11 to Fedora 13. The Ircd was changed into Inspircd, the latest version of Anope was installed, and now there is still a struggle going on to get some Eggdrops running again. The servers on both sides of the world now use Inspircd and are linked again. Ssl works on port 6697. If you use mIRC you will have to check if ssl support is installed and then use port +6697.

Since the old server crashed in a way beyond repair or recovery, all databases were lost as well. All users will have to re-register, and re-register their channel. We do understand that it is an inconvenience, but you have a better and faster and more secure network in return. We all will have to get used to some new commands and modes, so also on that, be patient with us.

...US Servers...

United States

There have been some changes in the server section, again the DNS addresses of dyndns.com have been set inactive, so we will no longer use those. Also added here the address of the FTP Server. To connect to the FTP Server, use an FTP client or point your browser to the address. You do not need a login nor a password. For more access or higher speed you will have to request a login and password. Anonymous logins could reduce in speed depending on the amount of registered users.

We have a few hunderd Gigabytes to spare for FTP uploads. If you are interested to use some of this space, contact MJP at and tell if it is long or short term, what kind of files you want to store, what user name you would like to use, and what password. This is a nice option to store files you rather not have at your work or home computer. Be warned that illegal material will be removed and if applicable be turned over to law enforcement. ftprules

We are now also using the server name irc.rebelnet.us in time we might start having more servers on domains of us starting with irc.

NOTICE! It seems there are some issues with the server names starting with irc. It all seemed to work fine before, but now it won't. I will delete this notice when all works fine again. You can always try to use these servers, and let me know if they work for you or not.

...NZ Servers...

New Zealand

To keep things simple we now only have two URLs pointed to the NZ IRC servers.
At this point in time there is no plan to restore server 2 as server 1 is quite able to keep up with demand

IRC Networks Hall of Shame

Specially the do not go to ones

Of course there are other IRC networks out there, and some are even pretty good and have a nice staff with enough know-how and fairness to run a network well enough. But others have to be placed right in the hall of IRC shame.

-*- ircqnet.eu
With someone owning this network that probably doesn't know who he is himself, he plays all the roles within his IRC chatting family, all the same lousy grammar and spelling. Yes I did get banned there, for Quote: atverticement. Whatever that would be.

-*- irc.icq.com
Probably one of the worst networks out there, with a staff that does not even know the IRC commands and whom seem to have gotten whatever staff position they are in, by giving the right person a rimjob.

As added bonus we made an OPshitlist take a look and let us know if we need to add some more. Don't forget to tell us the network, what kind of staff member, and why.
